Running with Heart: Nick O'Hara's Story |
|
|
|
In 2020, as Nick O'Hara neared the end of his familiar two-mile running route through his South Boston neighborhood, his spiked, causing him to collapse in the middle of the road.
He was taken to the Boston Medical Center emergency room, diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a rhythm disorder that causes an erratic heartbeat, and scheduled for heart surgery the following morning. |

|
Today, Nick is not only thriving but training for the Boston Marathon as a proud member of Team BMC, fundraising to support health equity programs and innovative services for patients and families.
“BMC gave me my future back,” says Nick. “I can’t imagine not doing the things I do now. I’m grateful to support the incredible work they do.”

Join us in celebrating Jake Bennett, a proud nurse in BMC’s emergency department and a recent recipient of the DAISY Award, presented by Chief Nursing Officer Nancy Gaden. This award honors extraordinary nurses who go the extra mile to deliver compassionate care to patients and their families.
A patient nominated Jake for helping her through a frightening allergy attack. “In the chaos, it was so comforting to me that Jacob held my hand and stayed by my side while treating me with pristine medical care,” she said in her nomination. “As much as I was terrified, Jake’s kindness and emotional support during my anaphylaxis helped my treatment go smoother.” Learn more about nursing at BMC.
