Fifteen Years After a Stem Cell Transplantation for Amyloidosis, Jeff is Still in Remission

After experiencing swelling in his feet and legs, Jeff Howe was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare, life-threatening disease that occurs when a protein called amyloid builds up in the organs and causes damage. He was referred to the Amyloidosis Center at BMC, one of the top centers in the world for this condition, where he underwent a stem cell transplantation. 

“Back in 2008 when I was diagnosed with amyloidosis, the prognosis was fairly dire,” reflects Jeff. “But I put my trust in BMC and everything turned out beautifully.”

Gerry is Living a Full Life with Parkinson’s after Deep Brain Stimulation

Boston Center for Refugee Health & Human Rights has now relocated from Dowling 8 & 9 to Crosstown 1 – Area A. 


Pediatric Specialty Group will be relocating from Shapiro 8C to Crosstown 7 on April 26.

Nancy Gaden Earns the Living Legends in Massachusetts Nursing Award 

Congratulations to Nancy Gaden, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, senior vice president and chief nursing officer, for earning the Living Legends in Massachusetts Nursing Award from the American Nurses Association in Massachusetts. Throughout her incredible career, Nancy has been an inspiration to other nurses and an exemplary nurse leader. She leads our magnet-designated nursing department to provide excellent patient care.

Celebrating Dr. Christine Crawford Named a 2024 “Top Black Doctor”

We're proud to announce that Dr. Christine Crawford was selected as a 2024 Top Black Doctor by Castle Connolly. Dr. Crawford is an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist at BMC's Child & Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. Dr. Crawford consistently engages in community outreach initiatives and provides excellent care to all our patients to enhance overall health.

Together for Hope 2024 Was a Success 

Full of inspiring panels and thought-provoking presentations, the inaugural Together for Hope conference from BMC's Grayken Center for Addiction covered a wide variety of topics touching the addiction space. More than 500 participants, including practitioners and people with lived experience, discussed their ideas and experiences while building meaningful connections. On April 15, we were thrilled to cheer on the 82 members of Team BMC as they participated in the 128th Boston Marathon while supporting our mission.
