After a Rare Diagnosis, Baby Ethan is Thriving After Receiving Care with BMC’s Fetal Program |
When Josseline was 10 weeks pregnant, she was shocked to learn that her baby would be born with gastroschisis, a rare condition where the intestines grow outside the body through a hole in the abdominal wall. But chief of pediatric surgery, Dr. Christopher Muratore, assured them they were in good hands with BMC’s multidisciplinary fetal program, which brings together genetic counselors, maternal-fetal medicine doctors, pediatric surgeons and medicine specialists to coordinate delivery of complex pregnancies. |
After a careful delivery and a complex surgery, 4-month-old Ethan is now thriving. “I’ve never been happier to change so many diapers,” Josseline laughs. “I’m grateful every day that he came into our lives.” |

Happy National Nutrition Month from BMC, where we believe that food is medicine. This is why we provide patients with medically and culturally appropriate food from our preventive food pantry, fresh produce from our rooftop farm, culinary skills from our teaching kitchen, and nutrition education from our inpatient and outpatient dietitians.
Follow these tips for healthier eating: |
Don’t skip breakfast
Start your day with whole grains, lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. |
Eat your veggies (and fruit)
Aim to eat 2 ½ cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit every day. |
Cook more often
Save money and eat more healthfully by making your own meals instead of eating out or making frozen dinners. Start by finding a few simple recipes your family enjoys. |

Masking Update for BMC Patients and Visitors |
As of March 4th, BMC no longer requires masking in hospital buildings. Patients and visitors that have symptoms of respiratory illnesses, including a cough, fever, runny nose, or shortness of breath, even if you have tested negative for COVID-19, you may be asked to put on a surgical mask to reduce the spread of respiratory germs and protect others. |
In addition, BMC employees will continue to be required to wear masks in all clinical areas, including an N95 mask when caring for a patient with COVID-19.
Masks will continue to be available at all entrances. We appreciate your cooperation and your help in keeping everyone in the BMC community safe. |

I've always had a great experience between the nurse practitioner, the administrative office, and the doctor. I trust this doctor and his opinion. My surgery was a success and any time I've come in to see my doctor, he's explained everything and I always leave there feeling that I know what's going on. |
