Laurence Brinckerhoff, MD and Christopher Digesu, MD are revitalizing BMC’s thoracic surgery program with clinical innovation and a patient-centered approach.

Bringing Cutting-Edge Thoracic Surgery to our Community

In celebration of National Surgical Oncologist Day on August 22, we are proud to spotlight our Division of Thoracic Surgery, recognized as high performing in lung surgery by U.S. News and World Report. Division Chief Dr. Laurence Brinckerhoff and thoracic surgeon Dr. Christopher Digesu have begun to revolutionize the surgical process for BMC patients by providing access to modern, high-end, minimally invasive thoracic surgical procedures. New robotic technology at BMC allows for more flexible movements which means the surgeon can operate through smaller incisions. This reduces the length of stay in post-operative care and allows patients to return to their lives quicker.

Celebrating National Breastfeeding Month in August

Breastfeeding can help parents and infants decrease their risk for future health problems. BMC’s team of experts is here to support our patients and their breastfeeding goals. Here are a few tips from our providers:

Baby Image

Most newborns need to eat at least eight to 12 times during a 24-hour period which can be a lot of work. Preparing for what to expect can help new parents to feel ready and prepared.

Mother and infant Image

Hold your baby skin-to-skin on your chest for the first hour after birth to help establish breastfeeding. By having your baby skin-to-skin on your chest after your baby is born is a great way to bond and help the body to establish lactation. Our team is ready to help even if the baby requires special care after birth.

Hand expression is a powerful tool! You can start working on this before your baby is born to help prepare for breastfeeding as well as in the first three days while working on establishing milk production.

Although breastfeeding is considered to be the biological feeding method, the Breastfeeding Equity Center and BMC use evidence-based care to support all parents in achieving their infant feeding goals.

In Your Words

I am so impressed with the care that I get at the geriatric clinic. I am almost speechless. I can't say enough for the staff and the doctors and the nurses and the receptionists. It's really awesome. Thank you for the great job you do with me.

“In Your Words” features patient comments from patient experience outreach surveys. We appreciate your time completing these surveys and for sharing your thoughts with us. The information gathered in these surveys is used to learn where we can improve, to continue to provide exceptional care to all.

BMC patient and employee, Lily, adopted a bee.

Good health takes more than medicine. Right now, we are raising essential funds for BMC programs not covered by insurance, like our preventive food pantry and Rooftop Farms. A donation of any size allows you to "adopt a bee" and make an impact for all BMC patients like Lily, a patient and employee. Donations will be tripled, dollar for dollar, to support healthcare that helps fellow patients at BMC. You’ll receive your very own “adoption” certificate to share your bee-lief in a healthier Boston.
