March 31st will mark the end of my first year as Chief Scientific Officer. In reflection, I would like to take a moment to appreciate the many people who have allowed us to make the progress that we have to date.
First, I would like to thank Alastair Bell and the greater hospital leadership who have embraced and supported research as an essential means by which to provide the most cutting edge care to our community.
Next, none of our accomplishments would have been possible without the tremendous leadership and hard work every day across many domains of the research enterprise (Sponsored Programs Administration, Sponsored Programs Finance, Center for Clinical Research Advancement, Research Informatics, Research Information Services, Research Compliance, Foundations and Government Grants, Basic and Preclinical Science, Contracts, Shared Services). Each person within our central research enterprise group works tirelessly each day to ensure that we are able to conduct high-quality research that improves the lives of our patients. If you haven’t, please take a moment to thank one of your research enterprise partners.
Finally, I’m grateful for each of you. You have provided honest, constructive feedback that has allowed us to grow; come forth and volunteered to help in many different ways; provided energy and enthusiasm and done the hard and often stressful day to day work that conducting research entails.
We have a number of exciting things coming up that we want to flag for you:
-
We have released a $75,000 BMC pilot award RFA, due 3/1. Email Megan at Megan.Bair-Merritt@bmc.org with questions.
-
On March 19th from 8-9 am, we will have our second Research Town Hall in which our community will be able to get to know other leaders from our research enterprise. This meeting will be hybrid. In person will be in Yawkey A and B (basement); please email Vivian.Onyechi@bmc.org for the zoom link
-
Coming soon will be a call for applications for early to mid-career faculty interested in being Learning Health System (LHS) Scholars. Scholars will engage in didactic work around LHS and comparative effectiveness research methodology, and will engage in a CER project focused on patient and health system priorities. Scholars will have 50% salary support (up to the NIH cap) covered.
