BMC Research Aims to Close Gaps in Heart Failure Diagnosis |

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is notoriously difficult to identify — often missed or misdiagnosed until a patient's condition has already progressed. Now, new research led by Lucy Schulson, MD, MPH, an internal medicine physician at BMC, aims to change that by leveraging AI for an earlier, more accurate diagnosis.

Name: Valerie Gouon-Evans PhD, PharmD
Department: Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM); Gastroenterology
Research Focus: I study liver disease and how to boost the mechanism of liver repair so we can find new therapies to treat acute and chronic liver disease.
Why BMC?: I came to the CReM because it was the perfect match for the pluripotent stem cell research I had been pursuing at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I was drawn to BMC and BU for its collegial and collaborative culture. It’s a very constructive environment where people can work together on science as a team. I’ve also had the opportunity to connect with colleagues involved in clinical trials, which has been especially inspiring.
