This Month's Featured Director

Anita Morris, MSN, FNP-BC

Director, Research Strategy & Process Improvement

As the Director of Research Strategy and Process Improvement, my role is to help develop the mission, vision, and strategic goals for the Research Enterprise.

I support department directors as they plan and execute their team goals, and I help in efforts to document and improve some of the core processes and workflows across Research. Currently, I’m supporting the ‘non-research’ workgroup that came together to better understand and describe the various functions performed across the Research Enterprise to support important projects that are not exclusively research-focused, such as city and state grants. I also help support the Community Engagement in Research workgroup, along with many other colleagues. What inspires me the most about the research mission and vision is the focus on health equity and inclusive research! I think it’s crucial that the opportunity to participate in research is a core component of ensuring healthcare is equitable, accessible, and works for everyone.

Boston Medical Center Seasons Gala

Boston Medical Center Health System's CEO Alastair Bell speaking at the Gala.

Visit the BMC Seasons Gala website here: Link →

The BMC Seasons Gala is the health system’s largest fundraising event of the year and successfully raised $2.4M. The Gala portrayed BMC in a modern, innovative, and compassionate light. Research was highlighted as a cornerstone of our forward-looking health system, underlying the crucial connections between inclusive medicine and health equity. The message was delivered with a gentle sincerity, and with our patients at the forefront, it is evident that we are successfully evolving BMC’s brand into the next-generation academic medical center. You can view the high-quality content shared during the Gala: View Here

ACTIV-1 Biospecimens and Clinical Data Available

We are pleased to announce the availability of ACTIV-1 biospecimens via the ACTIV Virtual Biorepository. This central web-based virtual biorepository portal will provide an easily searchable inventory for residual biospecimens from the ACTIV therapeutic clinical trials. Investigators, including those from outside the ACTIV partnership, will be able to use the portal to request and receive these samples and associated metadata. In addition, ACTIV-1 clinical data is publicly available at AccessClinicalData@NIAID. We encourage you to share this resource with any groups you think would be interested.

Research Education

Training and Education Opportunities and Development

Research Operations is developing education opportunities and partnering with BMC/BUMC's Clinical Research Resources Office to identify their monthly and quarterly series. As trainings become available, we will add them to the research community calendar or library.

  • Of note: Sponsored Programs Finance has recently added multiple presentations to its library shelf. Topics are Research Home Cost Centers (RHCC), Effort Reporting and Certification, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Grants Requirements.

  • The Clinical Trial Office continues its Clinical Research Billing and Finance (CRBF) with a workshop on internal budgeting. Research Operations will send out a Zoom meeting request for each session. Investigators, administrators, and study team members are all invited to attend. If you have not received a meeting request for the June session below, please contact the CTO to be added to its distribution group.
