Dear Research Community,

This month we are excited to share our Research Enterprise Mission, Vision, Values and Overarching Strategic Goals:

Mission

BMC is a world-class, interdisciplinary research institution centered on equity, which guides the science we conduct across the full spectrum of scientific discovery, and in how we conduct it.

We believe that expanding the opportunity to participate in research – as a member of a research team; as a participant; and as an interested member of the community - is core to providing inclusive, innovative, accessible, equitable, and exceptional healthcare for all.

Vision

Building upon our long history of partnering with our community, our vision is to advance equity-driven research to tackle our patients’ and the nation’s toughest health challenges, creating a reproducible national model that advances health equity for all.

Values

Engagement: We actively engage all stakeholders to elicit input and diverse perspectives

Transparency and Clear Communication: We strive for open and frequent communication to achieve full transparency in our work and to provide high levels of service to the research community

Accountability: To support effective teamwork and partnerships, we hold ourselves accountable for our individual and collective contributions and responsibilities

Respect and Kindness: We assume the best intentions of everyone and treat each other with respect and kindness

Service Excellence: We strive to provide excellent service to the BMC research community through our deep expertise, attitude of continual learning, responsiveness, and pride in our work

Knowledge sharing: We are committed to sharing our learnings and knowledge – both our scientific discovery resulting form research, and our learnings about how we apply a research equity approach

Overarching Strategic Goals

  • Strengthen and expand a sustainable research infrastructure that supports our investigators and fosters growth of federal and other extramurally sponsored studies

  • Accelerate growth of biopharma and PI-initiated research, IP and tech transfer, and industry partnerships in strategic areas that match our expertise, capacity, priorities, and expand our comprehensive portfolio

  • Expand funded work in high-impact, cross-cutting areas where we are poised to have outsized impact, with a focus on health equity

  • Facilitate recruitment and retention of a diverse, productive, and professionally vital research faculty and staff

Coming up..

  • We received 31 applications for pilot awards! A review panel will be reviewing these over the next few weeks.

  • Stay tuned for the second annual bridge funding call for applications.

  • Stay tuned for the call for applications for Learning Health System Scholars.

  • We received excellent feedback about our IDC policy. We are analyzing for themes, and will communicate back what we found and our responses.
