BMC Study Highlights Scalable Mindfulness Model for Treating Chronic Low Back Pain

New research from led by Natalia Morone, MD, MS, a primary care and internal medicine clinician at BMC, suggests that the Optimizing Pain Treatment In Medical settings Using Mindfulness (OPTIMUM) trial, where an adapted group mindfulness program is delivered through primary care telehealth for patients with chronic low back pain, produced sustained reductions in pain and improvements in patients' daily lives. |

Name: Hannah Brown, MD
Department: Psychiatry
Research Focus: We are trying to understand how to optimize clinical care for individuals with psychosis with a particular focus on early intervention. We do that by thinking about lifestyle interventions, new medications, and how to use large datasets to help understand how to direct the course of treatment.
Why BMC: I was really inspired by the mission at BMC and the potential to build a psychosis clinical and research program that provides evidence-based care and truly serves the patient population and community around the hospital. What also really appealed to me was the idea that people conceptualize psychosis in different ways based on their cultural backgrounds and upbringing, and I was excited about the possibility of understanding how different individuals, families, and communities conceptualize psychosis themselves.
